Verlie is a dedicated woman. Not only has she dedicated over 34 years to United Airlines, she has also dedicated over 25 years as Director of the Soup Kitchen at her church, SS. Monica & Luke Catholic Church.

In addition, she is the Tuesday co-host on JED in the Region, and the host of the East Chicago Show, both on WJOB Radio AM-1230 and 104.7-FM. Prior to this, she was the Station Manager and morning show host on WLTH Radio in Gary.

Verlie has been actively involved in grassroots initiatives, political activism and community affairs since moving to Northwest Indiana from New York City. She has served on the Catholic Charities Board and the Purdue Lake County Extension Board - and currently serves on PCARET (the Purdue Council on Agriculture, Research, Extension and Teaching) where she was the Past State President, on the Indiana Parenting Institute Board, on the Legacy Board, and on Legacy Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy. She is also a Life Member of the NAACP.

A graduate of FBI Citizens Academy and Leadership Northwest Indiana, her greatest joy is life with her husband Michael Suggs and their blended family of 6 children and 11 grandchildren.
